So much have been said and a lot have been misconstrued about Valentine’s Day. There is no over flogging the issue of Love. As love is the essence of creation. Love is the reason why we humans are on this Earth, love is the reason why we are alive today. Expunge love on earth and the world will go into extinction. This establishes the fact that love is the heartbeat of the world. Love keeps the world in motion. God Himself is LOVE. Devine love is the true love.
Now let me take you into the definition and true meaning of valentine.
According to Wikipedia, Valentin, Valentina, Valentino, Valentini, Valentinus, Val, Valerie, Valeria, Vincent are related names. Valentine is a unisex given name derived from the Roman family name Valentinus, which was derived from the Latin word valens, which means “strong and healthy.”
Valentine was the name of several saints of the Roman Catholic Church. St. Valentine’s Day was named for a third-century Martyr. A Mather is someone killed because of their beliefs.
A saint is a person who is recognized as having an exceptional degree of holiness or likeness or closeness to God. Depending on the context and denomination, the term also retains its original Christian meaning, as any believer who is “in Christ” and in whom Christ dwells, whether in Heaven or on Earth.
Saint Valentine therefore was a Roman priest martyred during the reign of Claudius Gothicus. He was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying Christian couples and otherwise aiding Christians who were at the time being persecuted by Claudius in Rome
“Valentine has come to be known as the patron saint of lovers who are going into marriage.
The key word here is marriage. Two single individuals who are lusting over each other cannot be said to be in love. This kind of worldly love is infatuation. Those are not the love I am talking about here.
So true love that counts no error, that is unconditional, that shares both in moment of sorrows and jubilations. A love that gives of itself without expecting any reward or gratification whatsoever.
The love that is divine, straight from the bosom of the Almighty. God upon creation of man gave us an injunction, a mandate, a responsibility, a task if I may say, to love one another, to love our neighbors just as we love ourselves. This is the divine will of the almighty. His purpose for creating this lower world. We are all here on Earth so as to learn how to give and receive love.
Love therefore is the essence of creation, the very meaning of life itself. This world would not be in existence without Divine Love. The love of God sustains all life.
So we all as creatures of God must do our part by extending this love of God that is manifest in our lives through life itself, wealth, health, knowledge, wisdom, etcetera to those around us.
Love yourself. love your spouse, love your family, love your neighbors, love your enemies. be an epitome of love.
St Valentine whom we celebrate every 14thday of February has led a foot part for us to follow.
Are you among those who only associate valentine with immoral behavior, I believe that from today you will begin to change your views on this. You have now understood that Valentine’s Day is for reaching out not only to our loved ones but also to the needy, the less privileged, to the orphans and motherless babies. You can give not only physical cash but also you can give a smile to, a listening ear, words of encouragement, and service to humanity. This is the whole essence of Valentine’s Day.
For the first time in the history of Fotozila Africa, I celebrated valentine’s day with the staff and some customers in our head office at no 26 Ikwerre road mile Port Harcourt, Nigeria. This offered me the opportunity of explaining the true meaning of valentine to all my staff and customers in attendance . Exchange of gifts among the staff was paramount during this occasion. This was done to help foster love, peace and oneness among them for a better and effective service delivery.
