9TH NOVEMBER 2018
I was in my office attending to my customers today when I got a call from Bassey telling me she is on her way to hand over my script for a new Home Movie she is producing. Bassey is an agent who had help me in recruiting some of my staff both at Fotozila Africa and Properlinks; My husbands China Sea and Air Cargo company. A few days earlier, she had come to me asking that I help her out in her new movie . I was happy to hear that she is also in the entertainment industry .
She set me down memory learn as I began to recall my years in Imo Broadcasting Corporation. I journeyed down the path of history with her as I narrated to her on her arrival how it all started.
In the year 2000 I was posted to Imo Broadcasting Corporation for my National Youth Service where started producing aTV comedy series ‘Heartland City’. This comedy created so much ripples in owerri that people practically ran home to catch up with the programe. This incited jealousy in my colleague who was asked to help me in the pilot production. Because I was new in Owerri then, and not knowing anyone, he helped me in getting the artistes, locations, props, and recording equipment. Along the line he withdrew from the production out of jealousy and I was confused of what to do. He even mandated all the artiste he brought to me not to feature in my comedy series again ,or be ostracized from his own drama series. Only a few of the artiste listened to him. It was challenging but I finally came out of it far better than I was.
His attitude made me take the bull by the horn and I learnt how to record, and edit my programs for airing all by myself. For ten whole years, I single handedly scripted, casted, recorded, directed, and edited all my television and radio programs while in Imo Broadcasting
Corporation IBC Owerri.
It was really interesting and exciting then. I also ventured into Home Movies where I featured in Tongue of Fire, Arrow in The Heart, Bonds of Tradition, and intelligent Mugu etc until I had to resign from my job to join my husband here in Por t Harcourt and help him out in his business because he is always travelling out of the country. I went on and on and on and Bassey listened with rapt attention.
‘Back to where we were’, I chipped in remembering that she was here for a purpose. Where is the script for the movie? I asked her. She brought out a script from her bag and handed it over to me. ‘Bachelors INC’ , I read the title allowed. I asked her to tell me all about the script which she did. I asked her few questions which she answered. I noticed some areas in the script that needs amendments so I suggested a kind of script workshop so that the script will come out better. She pleaded with me to come and help her during the auditioning of the Movie and also talk to the artistes.
We started the auditioning a little late but it was worth its while. Not too many people came though this was expected being that Port Harcourt has only recorded a few movies in recent times.
Now I am back to my roots, I have decided to join hand with the others to bombard Port Harcourt with so much movies to the envy of other states.
Before the audition proper, I advised the participants to link to my site, and read up my write on How to prepare for an Acting Audition so as to set them on the right track. At the end of the audition, I was invited to make a speech as well as advice the artistes present.
As I drove back to the office, I was so happy with myself for making a com back into the movie industry . NOLLYWOOD HERE I COME!!
Watch out for the premiere of Bachelors INC soon. it is going to be a BOOM!!!
